Just dropping in to say that Ice Box will be at the AWP Book Fair this Thursday through Saturday, sharing a table with the Poetry Center of Chicago. Stop by! Our chapbooks make for great gifts and party favors.

I'm also super happy to say that we will have Erin and Tara's books ready for sale at AWP. We'll have more details on reading events soon!

Special thanks with to all who came out to support us yesterday in our folding marathon: Kristiana Colon, Kristine Domingo, Suzy Morgan, Tara Walker, Mike Winstead and Melissa (sorry, I don't know her last name, but she got the most gold stars). We only had one exacto knife related injury (my thumb), so the day was a success.

Ice Box at Quimby's

Ice Box Press will be at Quimby's on Friday, January 23 at 7:00 pm to spread some poetry love. Ryan Pendell will read from his chapbook, Say to These Bones, Live! Also, a special sneak preview from up-and-coming Ice Box authors Tara Walker and E.C. Messer.

To celebrate the publication of our first chapbooks, StoryStudio Chicago will host a reading for us on December 17 at 7:00 pm. Kristiana Colon and Ryan Pendell will read their hearts out for your listening pleasure, and they are nice people to eat snacks with, too. Yes, there will be snacks!

After a successful launch at Open Studio Night at SAIC, Ice Box Press has chapbooks available to purchase. Say to These Bones, Live! by Ryan Pendell and pieces of shedu & other poems by kristiana colon will rock your socks off for a measly three bucks apiece. Yes, folks, you really can get a hand sewn chapbook for only three dollars. Buy them for your mom, your poetry-spouting girlfriend, your pet iguana, and your neighborhood mail carrier. Send us an email to order one, or check back for details on our next reading where you can buy one or both in person.

First Release

Ice Box Press is pleased to announce the release of its inaugural issues: Pieces of Shedu by Kristiana Colón, and Say to These Bones, Live! by Ryan Pendell.

A reading will be held Friday, November 14, 6-7 p.m. at School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Open Studio Night, 37 S. Wabash, 12th floor, room 1218, featuring Colón and Pendell, as well as other students in the MFA in Writing Program. This event is free and open to the public. From 7:30-9 p.m. there will be a realease party in the Ice Box studio space at 112 S. Michigan Avenue, 10th floor, studio 1017.

Kristiana Colón’s Pieces of Shedu is a dark, sinuous fusion of ancient mythology and contemporary wounds. One of Chicago’s Def Poets, Colón’s work has appeared in Acentos Literary Review, Girlspeak, and Two Without Water, among other publications.

Ryan Pendell’s poetry employs lyrical and melodic abandon, combining elements of childhood daydreams and philosophical discourse. Pendell is the founder and co-editor of Lark(!) Magazine (www.larkmag.com).
